What is the difference between an allergic reaction & food intolerance? How do I avoid it?
I thought that an allergic reaction or an intolerance reaction to food meant the same thing, but they’re very different.
An allergic reaction is an immune system response to the food. This happens very quickly, often within a couple of hours of eating the food. That is why, when starting solids, it’s recommended to start with only one type of food, & to introduce a new food after 3 or 4 days. It’s also important to start with a teaspoon of the food once a day, & then increase the amount & frequency slowly to twice or two times a day.
A food intolerance reaction is due to an accumulation of the chemical present in the food. This occurs over time, but can also manifest very quickly. I think of it as a bucket that fills up slowly over time & then overflows. Your baby will ingest the food gradually over a few days, until there is a build up of that chemical reaching a critical mass, & the intolerance reaction occurs.
The response to an allergic or an intolerance reaction is the same. Your baby may suffer from vomiting, sudden loose poo or diarrhea, hives, swelling, redness or a rash.

Many people that have to use hearing aid also want to use a cell phone. Quite often the hearing aid frequencies interfere with the frequency used by cell phones. It is quite common to experience squealing when trying to use a cell phone with your hearing aid.
If your hearing aid is not very severe, then you may be easily able to hear well enough to take your hearing aid out & use the phone without the hearing aid.
Manufacturers of hearing aids are quite innovative, they’re always finding new features to add to the hearing aids.
If you wanted to use Bluetooth headsets with your hearing aid it may have been hard before, however now you can buy a Bluetooth compatible headset, these enable users to talk on the phone like other people can normally.
Bluetooth is the name of a wireless radio system that can be often used as a wireless headset. Bluetooth is a standard protocol which is compatible with Bluetooth enabled phones & PDA’s.
Ear level instrument (ELI) is a Bluetooth headset produced by Starkey, this headset works perfectly with most hearing aids. There is more. The ELI is very small & considerably light, there is a built in battery which you can recharge. It uses a digital system to minimise the interference.
The only problems with the ELI is that they’re relatively . . . → Read More: Using A Bluetooth Headset With A Hearing Aid

Acne scars are ugly, & it’s unfortunate if the person has it on their face. And so… Some acne does leave miserable scars on the face & body, but luckily there is treatment for these types of scars. It’s essential that a person being treated for the acne scars doesn’t have active acne anywhere else on the face. Acne scars might occur if you keep pinching the acne on your face & attempt to break it or squeeze it out.
Even persistent acne is capable of leaving a scar on the face. There’re different kinds of scars which occur on different people. The kind of treatment for the scar totally depends on the kind of scar. One type of treatment can not actually be applied to all the scars. So… Some times cosmetology is recommended for severe scarring, or if the scars are too big.
Cosmetic surgery isn’t usually recommended for small scars or single marks, but it’s left at the discretion of the person who has the scar. Getting rid of acne & the scars it causes is a complex process & a lot of treatments are adapted to cure it… These kinds of treatments include punch techniques, laser acne treatments, & injections or augmentations are also used. Until recently, the reason why acne leaves scars was not very clear. Some times . . . → Read More: Everything You Must Know About Acne Scars

If your grandparents, mother & father all suffered from heart disease, you may feel doomed to heart failure. Even though heredity is a factor in the cause of heart disease, that is all it is, simply one factor among many. Heredity, according to one recent study may account for only ten percent of the risk factors.
Then what’s the other 90%?
Smoking
By now everybody must be fully aware that cigarettes contain various elements which will damage arteries, making it easier for cholesterol deposits to build unhealthy, blood-blocking plaque on the internal artery walls. Smoking also makes platelets, the component of blood that causes clotting, to be more active, & thus the risk of a clot rises.
Obesity
Another cause of heart disease, & various other health problems is obesity. Often obesity comes with high cholesterol & blood pressure, which we know increase the risk of heart disease, but new studies are also showing a correlation between abdominal fat & heart disease in a way that isn’t yet fully understood. Either way, as the circumference of stomach increases, the risk of heart disease seems to increase more.
High cholesterol
The body needs cholesterol & can actually produce all it needs, so when we ingest foods high in cholesterols, like dairy & meat products, our bodies get a lot more cholesterol than they need. . . . → Read More: Heart Disease – Your Parents Are Not To Blame

How to handle Diabetes in the Workplace?
It has been many years since my initial diagnosis of Type I Diabetes (about 17) & I’ve definitely changed my thinking regarding my disease.
During the first year of so after my diagnosis, I was fearful to share my diabetes with my co-workers. I really do not remember feeling shame, I think I consciously did not want to answer their questions or concerns about the disease. I was not comfortable with the disease myself & I was not in control of it.
About a year after my diagnosis, my physician recommended an insulin pump. I reticently agreed to attempt it, & have never regretted the decision, not even for a moment. Having an insulin pump allowed me to get my life back—I was able to control my disease, & was able to become an advocate for the insulin pump.
An insulin pump is a small medical device that is capable of administering minute amounts of insulin from a reservoir through tubing that is delivered into the body subcutaneously by an infusion mechanism. These minute amounts of insulin are delivered approximately every ten minutes continuously throughout the 24 hour period, & also additional insulin may be bloused prior or after meals.

Major depressive disorder

In major depression, qualifiers can be added to the diagnosis, such as “atypical”, “melancholic”, or “post-partum onset”. Such qualifiers describe a specific pattern of symptom presentation. By example, increased appetite, rejection sensitivity, & a sensation of heaviness of the limbs characterize an atypical major depressive episode.
Melancholic depression is most associated with sleep & appetite loss & psychomotor retardation. It’s characterized by a phenomenon known as a diurnal variation of mood – feeling much worse in the morning with some improvement in mood by evening.
Major depression & dysthymic disorder are the most common forms of depression. Dysthymic disorder is more chronic with persistent sadness nearly daily for at least 2 years. In seasonal affective disorder, the depression symptoms are the same as in major depression but occur exclusively within one season (usually the winter).
Bipolar depression is the depressed phase of a condition called bipolar disorder. In many cases, the symptom presentation of depression doesn’t fit the . . . → Read More: The Different Types of Depression

Human skin is a complicated, vital & fascinating organ. The skin is the largest human, covering 1 to 2 square meters (10 to 20 square feet). It forms a important boundary separating the outside world from the inside of your body.
The skin is an very versatile organ: it’s flexible yet waterproof; helps keep you warm & cool; & protects you from, foreign substances & invading organisms that can cause infections & from the environment. The skin efficiently helps regulate the body’s temperature (like a house thermostat). Since the temperature of the external environment is constantly changing, the skin must work constantly, in co-ordination with specialised areas of the brain, to keep the body’s temperature within a narrow set range. The skin is versatile & tough enough to protect you from the tough environment, helps control a complex immune regulation of the skin & body, yet still gives one of our most delicate functions?the sensation of touch.
The skin is also a selective barrier: stopping toxic substances from entering, while permitting the absorption of certain lubricating oils & medications that can assist stop certain diseases (motion sickness & heart attacks ), help people avoid pregnancy & smoking, & help provide hormone replacement. The skin is clearly a versatile, dynamic & & important organ.

As a person who has spent a high percentage of his waking hours adorned in sporting colours & locked in fierce combat with an opposition or digging deep to find that last bit of energy & strength on the field or on the track, I’m fully aware of the physical repercussions as I grow older, & hopefully wiser. How do I now ensure this body keeps functioning like the well oiled machine that it has always seemed to be? The answer may well be as simple as two health supplements, which, when taken in combination are producing promising results.
Our body, like a machine, has a limited lifespan & requires much care & maintenance in order to maximise its potential & ensure it lasts as long as possible. All wise mechanics & engineers will tell you that the key to a machine’s output is best found in preventative measures rather than painstakingly lengthy remedies & cures. For too long I’ve watched the ageing, as well as fellow sportsmen & women, suffer at the hands of joint pain after years of high physical activity. On most occasions it’s not our muscular or skeletal systems that give way to fatigue, but rather it’s that which hinges those systems that throws up its hands – our joints!
It had always been in the back of . . . → Read More: Good News For Joint Pain & Arthritis Sufferers – Goodbye Pain in the Neck!
