Fibromyalgia is a disease characterized by long-term, widespread pain in muscles and bones, the sensitivity of some counts in the soft tissues (muscles and tendons) and severe malaise and fatigue. Patients experience pain, with no clear localization, deep in the body, muscle and bone. The pain is very subjective. Pain is felt on both sides of the body and arms and legs.

Patients complain of poor sleep, and in the morning to be unwilling and tired, because their sleep did not bring refreshment and relaxation. The other main problems are the severe fatigue and weakness causing decreased physical ability. Patients often complain of general symptoms such as headaches and numbness. Have a feeling that their arm or leg numb and swollen, even though the island is not really present. These symptoms cause anxiety, depression.

Epidemiology of fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia occurs in 2 percent of the general population. Is more common in women than in men at a ratio of 9:1. Most often diagnosed between 20 and 50 years, although it may begin in childhood.

Etiology of fibromyalgia

Uzoci fibromyalgia are unclear. Most scientists agree that fibromyalgia is a disorder of central processing with neuroendocrine / neurotransmitter deregulation.

A large number of scientific studies showing multiple physiological variation in patients with fibromyalgia, such as increased levels of substance P in the spinal cord, low blood flow in the thalamus, hypo function hypothalamic – pituitary – adrenal axis, low levels of serotonin and tryptophan and abnormalities in cytokine function.

The psychiatric point of view the important results of studies showing that mild or moderate cognitive impairment is present in 83% of patients, while the present mood was reduced in 80% of patients with fibromyalgia. When these people are also very often present an increased anxiety and emotional instability lines of different degrees.

It is necessary to exclude chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia vary from depression (which assists in the presence or absence of painful points).

Treatment is symptomatic of fibromyalgia, including painkillers, antidepressants, muscle relaxants, hypnotics, and benzodiazepines. Since antidepressants are used trick antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (usually paroxetine, sertraline, fluoxetine) and inhibitors of mixed storage. It is believed that the most effective inhibitors were mixed and the “safest”, especially duloxetine and venlafaxine. Some research has shown the effectiveness of gabapentin in reducing pain, but also in improving sleep disturbances and other symptoms. Emphasized the importance of psychotherapy. The following general measures are recommended enough sleep, eating well, relaxation techniques and stress reduction, exercise, along with reduced intake of caffeine and alcohol.

Opt for green leafy vegetables and fruits in your diet and reduce the fat meal. Avoid the temptation of fast food and make sure you give yourself a healthy diet forever. Reduce alcohol, caffeine and many other bad habits that you may have.

A possible link has been established between joint and muscle pain disease called fibromyalgia and obesity. The University of Utah has done a study according to which obesity is linked to increased symptoms of fibromyalgia syndrome. It is very well known fact that with the surge of obesity in our society, there has been a sharp increase in the occurrences of various other diseases, such as heart disease, cancers, and fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a chronic syndrome, which affects about 10 million Americans, according to National Fibromyalgia Association. Chronic pain and fatigue syndrome can be debilitating to millions of people who have fibromyalgia.Link between obesity and fibromyalgiaObesity is commonly related to a number of health problems, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and lung problems. A new research suggests that there is increased sensitivity to pain and reduced flexibility and strength in the obese people. The increased weight can worsen the fatigue syndrome along with other health problems, such depression and anxiety, which lead to increased risk of fibromyalgia.Researchers at University of Utah hypothesized that obesity can be linked to the disability in the fibromyalgia patients. In a study, 250 patients with fibromyalgia syndrome were evaluated on the basis of their physical abilities, sleep quality, and heart rate.
Out of these 250 patients, 47% were obese and 30% were overweight. It was found that compared to other patients, obese patients had increased pain sensitivity in their lower body with reduced strength and impaired flexibility. Doctors advice that a little lifestyle physical activity can help alleviate the symptoms of pain from fibromyalgia syndrome. But obesity can deter their ability do those little bursts of activity. Losing weight can help in a great way to reduce the chances of suffering from this health condition. Xenical – First and foremost choice for losing weightIt is always advised that regular exercise and healthy diet are the two fundamental parts of any weight loss program. Worldwide, many obese people consider slimming tablets as the best resort to achieve significant weight loss. Xenical orlistat is one such slimming pills that limits the amount of fat absorption in our body. It should be taken along with healthy balanced diet and regular exercise. With the increased awareness of weight loss benefits, the drug market is flooded with various weight loss pills such as appetite suppressants, metabolism boosters, fat-burners, and fat absorption inhibitors. It is the working mechanism of these pills that separates them from each other. Appetite suppressants simply curb your hunger by suppressing the appetite. Metabolism boosters speed up your metabolism to burn extra calories and you lose weight. Xenical comes across as a different name amongst these weight loss pills. It neither suppresses your hunger nor does it speed up your metabolism to lose weight. Xenical orlistat works in your digestive tract to prevent an enzyme called lipase, which is responsible for breaking and absorption of fats in your body. Xenical prevents 30% of dietary fat from being absorbed in the body.

Are you experiencing chronic pain in your muscles and joints without having any history of trauma or injury? This may have left you wondering what’s behind this widespread pain? Well, you are not alone in your dilemma and if you’ve been experiencing this pain for 3 months or more it may be worth asking your doctor about diagnosing fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is condition, which is characterized by widespread, chronic pain throughout various points in the body. Sometimes, the pain will come and go or move from one area to another, puzzling the person as to where it comes from.

In addition to the widespread pain that can be felt in the body’s muscles, joints and tendons, fibromyalgia is also often accompanied by a sleeping disorder called alpha wave. This disturbs the sleep through increased brain activity that is similar to wakefulness.

This results to fatigue and tiredness because people with fibromyalgia do not experience the kind of restorative deep sleep that they should have. There will also be an increased sensitivity to the way pain is felt.

People afflicted with fibromyalgia may also experience mood swings, and depression.

As mentioned before, fibromyalgia is one of the harder conditions to diagnose perhaps because the cause is unknown and there can be so many symptoms that mimic other conditions.

The approach that doctors take is to conduct several tests and rule out other possibilities for the symptoms. Among the possible conditions that have similar symptoms are rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. This is why it is vital to tell your doctor about all the symptoms you’re having because what may be unrelated to you could in fact be very important.

Due to the difficulties over diagnosis, the American College of Rheumatology drew up diagnosing guidelines that can help physicians in diagnosing fibromyalgia. Some doctors however do not follow these to the letter because they feel that the guidelines are too strict.

Still, it is worth looking into especially when determining if you have fibromyalgia or not. According to the criteria set up, fibromyalgia may be diagnosed if widespread pain reaches a period of three consecutive months or more.

There should also be a minimum of 11 out of 18 specific different points in the body that are tender and painful when touched with light pressure (4kg of pressure).

Diagnosing fibromyalgia may take some perseverance so try keeping a diary to record all your symptoms so that you’re prepared when you visit the doctor. This will ensure you don’t forget any during your consultation and secondly, find a doctor that is sympathetic to your symptoms.

Question by Nikki881: Has anyone developed fibromyalgia after being on Prednisone for an extended period of time?
I suffer from Crohn’s disease. I have spent the majority of the past seven years on Prednisone. Ever since my second taper off, I have been very sensitive to touch and bruise easily. My primary care doc suspects fibromyalgia. Prednisone has caused so many additional problems for me — insomnia, dental issues, weight gain. Just want someone’s take on their own Prednisone experiences.

Best answer:

Answer by Mn_Wc07My father actually developed fibromyalgia from being on Prednisone. His doctors took him off of it and started him on something else, I’m not sure what though. But yes, it can happen.
