Chronic sinus infection is the condition where the mucous lining of the sinuses is constantly inflamed. Normally when we suffer from a mild sinus infection, the body will heal itself naturally even though this may take awhile. However, there are instances where the healing process takes too long resulting in recurrent sinus infections constantly.
Most people with chronic sinus infection have many factors which can cause them to suffer from regular episodes of sinus infection. Some of these include damp weather, airborne pollutants such a pet dander and mold infestation in the home.
Top 5 Symptoms of Chronic Sinus Infection
1. Nasal congestion. The causes of nasal obstruction could be due to allergies related to certain food groups, pollens, fungi and other foreign matters. Nasal obstruction can also be caused by nasal polyps and a deviated septum within the nose.
2. Mucus discharge. Nasal discharge could be stained with pus giving a yellowish-green colour. Foul-smelling discharge could mean bacterial infection of the maxillary sinuses arising from a dental problem.
3. Postnasal drip. On waking up in the morning, if a lot of mucus have collected overnight, it is a significant chronic sinus infection symptom. It is also common to . . . → Read More: What is Chronic Sinus Infection

Antibiotics for sinus infections are an old and established treatment approved by medical science. However recent reports are building doubt over the functioning of these antibiotics. Further the rise of alternative medicine and alternative treatment methods have displaced the applicability and popularity of antibiotics for sinus infections.
So before taking antibiotics for sinus infections, let’s take a look at its pros and cons for deciding right.
Pros:
#1 Antibiotics for sinus infections work as anti bacterial and thus stops the spread of sinus bacteria, or kill the bacteria or enhance the body immune system to fight against the diseases. With this anti-bacterial feature, application of antibiotics to treat sinus infection has become the most common method.
# 2 There are mainly two types of antibiotics for sinus infections – narrow spectrum and broad spectrum. Narrow spectrum antibiotics work against few limited bacteria, while broad spectrum antibiotics work against a wide range of bacteria. So there is always an option to apply the stronger broad spectrum antibiotics for sinus infections if at first the narrow spectrum ones fail.
#3 Also there are four distinct classes of antibiotics for sinus infections – (i) Penicillins, (ii) Macrolides, (iii) Cephalosporins and (iv) Fluoroquinolones. Each of these antibiotics works differently into human body to stop the spread of bacteria.
For example, penicillin interferes into the cell wall formation . . . → Read More: Antibiotics For Sinus Infections

Sinus is a cavity in the skull that connects to the nostril. Inflammation or redness that occurs in the sinuses are sinus infection symptoms due to the blockage of air. The other name of sinus infection is sinusitis. Other sinus infection symptoms include nasal congestion with discharge or postnasal drip, pain or pressure around the inner corner of the eye or down one side of the nose, headache in the temple or surrounding the eye. Pain or pressure symptoms are worse when coughing, straining, or lying on the back and better when the head is upright
Sinus infection is of two types- acute and chronic. Sinus infection symptoms may be similar for both types but treatment differs for each type. To get proper treatment for your sinus infection symptoms, consult your doctor and get diagnosed properly. The doctors prescribe various types of medicines and antibiotics. But these medicines do not necessarily have a long effect on the body. Then at that situation, the different kinds of sinus cure therapy should be adopted to cure sinus pain permanently.
Available Treatment for Sinus Infection SymptomsThe most opted sinus cure therapy is aromatherapy. This therapy unclogs the nasal passages and sinuses. The first benefit from this treatment is that it cures the sinus pain fast and some other sinus infection symptoms like . . . → Read More: Therapy for Your Sinus Infection Symptoms

I have had a horrible odour in my nose for 2 years. Ive had sinus infections but used antibiotics. So maybe atrophic rhinitis or chronic sinus infection.
What are some ways to tell? Also, the smell is also evident when I swallow mucus and it expels from my mouth.

Question by Diamond Girl: Is it possible to have a sinus infection without a fever?
I have all the symptoms of a sinus infection except a fever. Sinus pain and yellow mucus but no fever.
Best answer:
Answer by Alex Kyes it is very possible often causes of this are because of an allergic reaction or a cold. for example the allergic reaction will cause a migraine but since you wont be ill at the time it wont cause a fever. another example of this is if you have a cold and blocked up airways then going in high altitudes such as a plane or going deep under water can cause a sinus. eventually however you are more prone to get a fever because of the sinus but only after a period of time.

Question by : How long can a sinus infection possibly last?
I’ve had post-nasal drip for 4 months and I think I have a sinus infection. I went to an allergist and I am not allergic to anything.
Best answer:
Answer by Lili SmithThe sinuses are air-filled spaces in the skull (behind the forehead, nasal bones, cheeks, and eyes) that are lined with mucus membranes. Healthy sinuses contain no bacteria or other germs. Usually, mucus is able to drain out and air is able to circulate.
When the sinus openings become blocked or too much mucus builds up, bacteria and other germs can grow more easily.
Sinusitis can occur from one of these conditions:
* Small hairs (cilia) in the sinuses, which help move mucus out, do not work properly due to some medical conditions.
* Colds and allergies may cause too much mucus to be made or block the opening of the sinuses.
* A deviated nasal septum, nasal bone spur, or nasal polyps may block the opening of the sinuses.
Sinusitis can be:
* Acute — symptoms last up to 4 weeks
* Sub-acute — symptoms last 4 – 12 weeks
* Chronic — symptoms last 3 months or longer
Acute sinusitis is usually caused by a . . . → Read More: How long can a sinus infection possibly last?

Question by BLU EYEZ: How long does a sinus infection last? I am being treated with allergy meds and not antibiotics?
but I have all the symptoms of a sinus infection….
also does it make you fatigue?
also SOB?
Best answer:
Answer by mightymite1957If you think you have a sinus infection, go back to your doctor and find out. People who have allergies do get them. Sometimes, a nasal wash can help avoid the sinus problems, but once you get an infection, you do need the antibiotics.
