Does Medicare cover elder home care?

My mother is coming out of Rehab and she will need help at home. Is there anything Medicare or medicaid covers?

For home care, you must meet their definition of being “home bound” AND you must need skilled care (nursing or therapy care)to be covered. They would not cover general care that we all need for daily living, if that is all that you need. Examples of care not covered as Home Care by itself: bathing, dressing, eating, shopping, cleaning and 24-hour supervision at home.

I have been a Certified Nursing Assistant for about seven years and I have done home health care for about two of those years and I would say 95% of the patients I took care of had medicaid or medicare so yes they do help with at home care. I currently have worked at a nursing home for three and a half years and we have an excellent physical therapy program so some nursing homes have programs to and they can be temporaily instead of long term if need be and they can be paid by medicaid and medicare. Hope this helps.

I know medicaid does my mom had it when she had some type of surgery and she is diabetic and handicapped. Medicare might cover some of it, but they are more likely to cover it in a skilled nursing home.. On what the other person answered.

You need to call her medicaid.. If you are the guardian for her for her care. I would suggest calling them and seeing if they will cover it.

If you take her to a nursing home(skilled) the people in the office will help you fill out all the information with you. They did that with my husbands mother she has dementia.. alzhmiers and its bad. It was a hard decision, but it was for her safety as well as ours.

Medicaid and Medicare covers all of his mothers needs.
