HELP: Elder parents need health care?

Ok, my parents (dad 60 mom 50) are thinking of quitting their jobs in MI and moving out to CA to be close to me. So, my biggest fear is that they will need health insurance and won’t be able to qualify or find it. How do I make sure they are taken care of in that department?
My aprents have no idea what to do about health insurance all they know if that they want to be close to me. I am very scared that if they make the move they won’t be able to get coverage or help with insurance and then smth will happen and I won’t know how to help. They can’t afford to purchase private help insurance and I can’t afford to help them pay for it. :(

They aren’t ancient. I’m assuming they are going to try to find jobs in CA. What do they plan to do once they get there? Surely, they have thought of this, too.

Is 50 old? I’m 56 and no one ever told me this. Gee you learn something every day, even when you are elderly!

Your parents can get Medicare at age 65 if they are US citizens of have had green cards for more than 5 years. If they are poor, then they can apply for Medicaid. Insurance in California is always a huge problem – even in your 20s and 30s. If they could qualify for Blue Cross, it would cost them a fortune.

Do they have an opinion about all this, or have they made any plans for their health insurance? Probably they already know what to do and are just sparing you the details.

I would ask them straight out whether they have thought about health insurance. They’re adults, not children and I doubt they expect you to stress on it. If they’re working now, I don’t see why they can’t work in CA. Sixty and fifty really isn’t that old in today’s workplace, people are working way beyond that.

Where do they plan to live? Will they rent ot buy? Just make sure they’re aware of all the ins and outs of a CA move, higher cost of living maybe, especially in housing and then you’ve done your part.

Hi Jano, I wont be rude and sarcastic as some people. I help many people to get health care everywhere in the USA. We live in Las Vegas, NV. and we travel to California once a month for business and pleasure as well. To shock you, we pay only $40 a month and we all get the same health care everyone else has. ie: I see a pulmanary specialist every other month and pay $30 a visit and pay $82 a month for all my meds. because i take maintenance meds costing over $300, and pay only $82. My wife just picked up at CVS a prescription that was $30 for $5.61! My kids here in Vegas see their pediatrics Doc. for $30 a visit.

So there is opporunities that we dont see. That we should know but corparate America does not want you to know. Dont think that im against our own politics, I am a former Marine that had worked very close with certain commanders and generals in our arm forces.
