It seems no matter what I do my eyeglasses will not clean. If my daughter gets her fingerprints on them or if I get something on them I can never get it off. I use water and a cloth, glass cleaner and a cloth, just a cloth, water and letting them air dry. They always look streaky.
What’s the best way to get them really clean?

get yourself a nice silk type polishing rag from a guitar store. then clean them then use the polishing rag to polish the lens for no streaking. works for me
run them under tap water, wet your hand not holding the glasses, run your wet fingers over a bar of soap and then just clean the lenses with the thumb and forefinger of the hand not holding the glasses.
then rinse it totally in hot water, shake most of the water off and finish drying it with toilet paper.
I do it all the time. My glasses come out sparkling clean.
I use a polishing cloth. Sometimes I will run mine under water, then dry & buff w/ the cloth.
A) Don’t listen to some of the the previous posters, especially the one who said to use soap and toilet paper.
B) Never EVER use glass cleaner!!
C) Use running water and a soft cotton fiber or microfiber cloth (guitar user was ok on that suggestion.) Or a small amount of rubbing alcohol if they are especially greasy or dirty, but not every day.
D) When you wipe them off, wipe them straight to the side. If you have an anti reflective coating, wiping them in circles will only move the dirt around. Wiping them straight off cleans it much better.
Things like hand soap, dish soap and windex have chemicals in them that can eat your coatings and make them look scratched. Things like toilet paper, napkins, kleenex, paper towels, have wood fibers that can scratch lenses. I can’t even tell you how many lenses I see every day where people have not listened to us and cleaned them with whatever they have available. The very best stuff to use to glasses cleaner, not GLASS cleaner, but SPECTACLE cleaner. You can get it just about anywhere there is an optical place, including Wal-Mart.
